Barbican OpenFest: what's happening at the Barbican on Saturday 8 October?

August 22nd 2016

Explore the Centre and get a taste of everything the Barbican has to offer, from interactive art installations to dance, pop-up theatre to tours of the building – and it’s all free.

Across the afternoon, freestages offer performances from dancers, musicians, spoken word artists, DJs and more. Discover the Barbican artists of tomorrow with showcases from the young performers they work with in east London. For those with kids, the fun starts early, with a special OpenFest edition of Framed Film Club at 10am and continuing with a family trail round the Centre.

Get involved and cultivate your own creativity: throughout the day, you can drop in for workshop sessions on dance, designer crafts, and even urban-growing on the Lakeside.

At the end of the day, book for one of the evening shows from Michael Clark Company, east London’s Just Jam or an immersive circus performance The Machine - with discounted tickets available to young people aged 14-25 through the Young Barbican scheme.

And of course, E17 Designers provides with an opporutunity to stop, shop and  socialise all day from 12-7.30.We offer a selection of high quality, handpicked and handmade items of art prints and illustrations, soy candles, fashion, ceramics, accessories and more, from a group of talented makers all based in and around Walthamstow, E17.  From the Walthamstow Garden Party and beyond…
