Making Affordable Workspace

Posted by E17 Designers

From Krissie at East End Trades Guild:

""We are having a Making Affordable Workspace group discussion at Lighthaus, on the 31st July 11 Argall Ave, E10 7QZ  to talk about how we might find a new way of creating mixed use developments that are as practical and affordable for makers as possible, together with Pocket Living.

The evening will start with an optional tour of our members Turning Earth from 6.45 and the meeting will begin at 7pm and finish no later than 8.30 with time for fellowship, food and drinks within the schedule.

Because of the work we have been doing along with other groups such as Just Space, Waltham Forest Council is now requiring new developments in the area to include space for industry and manufacturing!

One such new development in the pipeline is a Pocket Living project in Leyton. Pocket Living has an interesting model of compact sized housing for single people and have clauses within their leases which stipulate that owners must live in the borough that the housing is built in.

As one of the more innovative housing developers we have an opportunity to develop a relationship through this meeting that could enable more affordable workspaces for our members in the future""

job advert for Waltham Forest Adult Learning Service:part time tutors in arts and crafts needed

Posted by E17 Designers

here is a great opportunity if you want to get in to teaching, I had a meeting with them and they are pretty keen to get new people on board: they weill even pay for a teacher training course. The teacher training courses are usually only a few hours a week for twelve weeks, so not a big commitment and you can get work as a tutor and do the course at the same time.

here is the link to the websbite with how to apply:

GDPR compliance

Posted by E17 Designers

Lots of organisations you may have heard from already, sending you opt in forms, due to new GDPR (stands for General Data Protection Regulation) regulations and guidance on how best to communicate with customers. So I spent yesterday working out what to do, so we can send info to our nearly 2000 strong email database: on the one hand, we have built up this email database over ten years, on the other, we are breaking the law if we do not alert eveyone that they need to 'opt' back in.......

Here is the link to the email I have sent to all our customers. If you have your own database for you own customers, feel free to use some of the text (or google 'GDPR compliance')

Our website contact email form, our link to go on mailing list, and also our facebook link to go on mailing list, have all been updated with the relevant forms...phew!

If you are not on our customer mailing list (I usually copy and paste your member' email across to keep it up to date) feel free to subscribe through the website click through button, you will see that on every page.

P.o.P!-People of Purpose Space to hire/share in Georgian Village, Wood Street, E17

Posted by E17 Designers

PLEASE CONTACT THEM DIRECT IF YOU ARE INTERESTED/HIRING THE SPACE:

Popeastlondon@gmail.com

P.o.P!-People of Purpose

P.o.P! was born out of looking for somewhere to be purposeful and to make that space available to others trying out a project .

After looking at the not so affordable/inconvenient studio spaces , we found the Georgian village shops to be available& priced so you could risk trying a project.  Since October it has been running as a shop, selling workshops and making creations. It’s also used as quiet study.

We look to invite: People to sell through here &

more members, on the lease it is named a shop but we are encouraged that as long as we are seen to be selling and have the doors open Tues-Sat 10-5

Thursday and Friday can stay open til 8pm if you had an after work audience/need to stay late .

So far the model has been split everything (rent/work)and prefer it that way ,a collective mentality. There’s a manager of the buildings but not this shop. We have to meet occasionally, but we have an email group for things like sharing the new toilet code info etc.

We’re looking for day members but it can be split between 2 of you doing half days.

So the costs and benefits:

£75 a month for a day a week

That covers :

day rent , leccy, water ,wifi, toilet cleaned and toilet roll. We got public liability so any workshop participants are legally looked after, you may want to read the small print to see if your activity requires anything further.

You can use this day to charge for your own activities.

What’s in the space to use :

oil heater , window space, hanging space and shelf space, of course we’d all make it fair so that you are represented . How the space develops is a collective experience so suggestions welcome on how we use it.

Bluetooth speaker, Also a kettle some lamps, tea cups and supplies. Bring your own taste in things, it’s meant as a base.

We have 9 chairs.

·      11 can be seated with a desk space each against the wall. That’s comfortable but with the option to add more in the centre.

·      Fold down all tables to have a full open space.

·      There are 2 desk size tables stored underneath which  make either 2 separate tables or one large table in the centre.

Tables ,when folded down, have been designed to have a lip for tea cups to sit,so if you’re standing you have somewhere to put your drink!

Plenty of plug points.

Floor is made durable and waterproof, ready for action.

Large sink ,cold running water.

Some storage, not huge but x8 separates.

If it is for running groups, advertising and finding your people would be key rather than hoping for a drop in.

Popeastlondon@gmail is the contact and the Instagram&facebook .

On 31st March at Wanstead Library, the first Wanstead Upcycling Fair. It will be a showcase to promote items that are recycled, renewable or biodegradable without damage to environment or wildlife. With public awareness growing around the damage to marine life our plastic addiction is causing, now is the time to look at alternative ways of living and of shopping.

If you are interested in running a stall at the fair with a suitable theme, or to promote your environmentally-friendly projects, do please get in touch by telephone to Catherine Daniel on 07399267945.

Among the stalls present will be a vegan cake stand, savoury snacks and artisan sustainable baskets made from everyday recycled materials, as seen at sustainablebaskets.weebly.com
and other baskets made from a range of natural materials.
Additionally, in the Library foyer, from the 5th February until 3rd April, there will be a display of shopping baskets by several members of the Basketmakers Association, to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the Right Worshipful Company of Basketmakers.

Christmas event on the Town Hall Campus

Posted by E17 Designers

FROM LBWF: As the pre-launch to Small Business Saturday – the Council will be organising a Christmas event on the Town Hall Campus on Friday 1stDecember. This special event will be free for residents to attend and will be a celebration of all things festive, including Santa, carol singers, entertainment, food and beverage stalls, a makers and creators Christmas market and tours of the Town Hall.

Ahead of Small Business Saturday 2 Dec, this event also aims to support our local ‘Maker and Creator’ Businesses through providing the opportunity to have a stand in our Christmas Craft market. If you are a small local business in the borough and are creative, crafty, artistic and want to sell your wares at our Christmas fair, get in touch.

The market will be in the Assembly Hall, from 3 – 8pm. Pitches are free.

If you would like to have a pitch and register your interest – please contact Ravinder.Dhanjal@walthamforest.gov.uk or Carly.Davis@walthamforest.gov.uk  who is the event organiser as soon as possible as there are limited places.

Registering your interest is not a guarantee to secure your place as you will need to meet our quality control processes. Whilst the event will be covered by the Council’s public liability insurance, you will need to ensure that you have all other legislative licenses/certificates e.g. food and hygiene  up to date if relevant to your business.

For any queries please email Carly Davis who will be able to assist.

Kind regards

Ravinder
